My A.M. Routine

I have to admit.  I’m not much of a morning person.  In fact, I hate getting up early.  It is not part of my natural makeup.  I’m a night owl.  The world would be a better place if it functioned between 6 pm to 3 am. Unfortunately, the world does not share my enthusiasm for lack of sunlight.

Things are going on during the day I need to attend to no matter if I like it or not.  So I set my phone alarm and get to it.  My phone alarm goes off at 5:30.  It is the gentle music as part of the I phones sleep program.  I also have a second alarm set at 5:35.  This alarm isn’t as gentle.  It sounds like a warning siren on a submarine which is under attack.

Once up I stagger to the bathroom, I am greeted by not one, not two, but 3 furry animals and making various noises so I will feed them.  I get dressed and do my skincare. Then quickly comb my hair and put it up for the day.

I walk downstairs and as I am halfway there I get run over and almost tripped by the furry hoard rushing to get to the food bowls first.  They seem not to understand if I die on the stairs that means I cannot feed them.  It doesn’t matter.  They are hungry! The dog barks at me with a loud demanding bark and goes over to her food bin and nudges it with her nose.  As if I  might forget which one to give her.  She’s only been our dog for over 10 years.  Then I turn to open the cabinet for the cat food.  Those two are leaning over the cupboard door looking in at the food to make sure I get the right stuff.

Once the cats are fed and eating, the dog needs attention.  She wants a treat. So I give her the smallest treat I can find. She walks off triumphantly to lay by the fireplace. The cats are finishing up so I quick get my breakfast. I have 10 to 15 minutes to wolf down my meal.

I normally have just been eating oatmeal for breakfast.  I am trying to eat Breakfast 100% healthy.  So far I”m not there, but it is my goal for the end of the year. Once I’m done it’s time to get the boy’s stuff out.  After giving food, medicine, vitamins etc I start the countdown clock to leaving.  I give a half an hour warning along with a get dressed and the like remark.  Then the 15 minute mark is here.  Same reminder but I also add make sure you brush your teeth etc.  Then I go brush my teeth, and make sure I look presentable for the school run.

Finally five minutes before we go, I give the “shut it down” order.  The kid comes down the stairs and we are out the door for the 30-40 minute drive to school. Often the dog insists on coming.  She barges out the door and jumps in the car.  God help you if you try to catch her or call her to go in the house.  It’s the only time she doesn’t listen.  She thinks it is her duty to take the boy to school.  She’s always done it and won’t give it up because the school is no longer down the road.

So there we are, all of us in morning rush hour traffic.

How is your am routine?
