What I’m currently…

rawpixel-com-191102

Currently…

Listening to….. Multiple Podcasts. A new one is called “Blackwood.”  Sort of a modern Blair Witch project.  A fictional account of 3 young people who research a local legend. It just started so get listening.

Eating…. Hello Fresh.  My husband and I subscribed to Hello Fresh food box subscription service.  I was so sick of eating the same thing day after day.  We chose the two day a week delivery for two people.  It is more than enough food.  It is something I look forward to eating.  I’m no foodie. Some of the meals are just okay, some are fantastic.  I like that we get to keep the recipe to remake it.  Which is the reason we got Hello Fresh.  To get something new to eat. Definitely worth it. (Not a sponsored post)

I’m also eating Reece’s Peanut Butter cups.  I shouldn’t be.  I bought normal size candy bars for Halloween Trick or Treaters.  The peanut butter cups are my weakness.  Sooooo good!

Making….I am spending more and more time on my journals.  Less on anything else.  I am also starting a junk journal. To find out how to start your own check out my pinterest page.

Drinking….Too much Coke as usual.

Watching….Expedition Unknown. I really like their recent episodes where they look at the afterlife in different cultures.

Going….To check out Fall leaves.

Thinking….How to get everything done. What to put on the to do list. How things are going to go with my son.  How to accomplish goals for myself.  Will I have time for everything.

Dreaming of….Taking a long vacation on my own without my family.  Sleeping for a very long time.

Wanting to….Work out more, improve my blog, and learn more about photography.

Family

What We Did As A Family Recently.

julia-raasch-153532-unsplash

Another month has flown by so quickly.  It’s the end of October.  I can’t believe it.  October for me is the start of the busy season which lasts till the third week in January for me.  I have finally been able to schedule a few fun things to do with family and friends.  I also was able to sort through all the Halloween decorations and got rid of a lot.  I kept enough for one shelf in the entrance way and the fireplace mantel.  I also went through the Thanksgiving decorations.  I don’t have a lot of those but I narrowed it down.  Part of me just wants to get rid of all of those decorations but I am not sure right now.  I will have to think about that in the future.

One of the fun things I was able to do was go with my friend to the Bachman’s Floral, Gift and Garden Idea House.  They take an old home and several times a year redecorate it.  Then they charge a small fee to tour it.  The proceeds go to charity.  You can also buy the one of a kind items in the house as well as the more mass produced stuff in the store.  This time I went to the Fall Idea House.  Here is the garage which they turned into a bar/man cave.

They always do the bedrooms which I love.  I am a sucker for a ton of pillows on the bed.

No matter what time of year it is, the dining room table is always beautifully decorated.

Later in the month, I went with my family to the Minnesota Zoo Jack-o-Lantern spectacular.  It was amazing!  There are 5000 pumpkins alight at night.  I’m glad we got there early and bought our online tickets early.

IMG_1595

Some of the pumpkins were carved with very traditional faces like above.  Some were more artistic in nature.  An example is Harry Potter below.

They keep carving pumpkins throughout the spectacular to replace the ones that rot.  What a great thing for the zoo to host!  I am so glad I went.

Close to the end of the month I went to an Antiques fair at Bachman’s.  Yes, I kind of live there.  I like a lot of the things the host.  Also, just know, they are not sponsoring me.

Then on the weekend, the last one before all the leaves fell.  We went to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  They had a scarecrow display where you could see this pumpkin house.

IMG_1645

The pumpkin has a variety of shapes and colors doesn’t it.  My favorite name of one of the pumpkins is the “Warty Goblin.”  Perfect. The main attraction was the fall color.  I love looking at the yellow leaves on the Wood Duck Trail.  So pretty!

Now we are prepping for Halloween trick or treaters.  Do you have a lot of kids come to your house?  I grew up out in the middle of nowhere.  We only had one trick or treater in the 25 years I lived there.  We thought they were lost.  It’s hard to figure out how much candy to get.  The number of kids varies from year to year.  This year I bought full sized candy bars.  Mistake!  I’ve already gotten into the Reece’s peanut butter cups.  A favorite of mine.  What do you sneak out of the candy stash?

I like to mix up my journaling with  some art journal entries.  I don’t want it all to be writing and bullet points.  See the following three blog posts for some inspiration for your books.

1.  Halloween is coming up.  Draw your favorite Jack-o-Lantern faces.

2. Draw the contents of your handbag or tote.

3.Draw one of your favorite characters from fiction.  How you see them, not how they are in films, or book covers.

5 Quick Ways to Help the Environment

kyle-szegedi-55847

We are all so busy right?  We want to do a lot of things but never seem to have the time.  Once of these things is helping out the environment.   How can we be more sustainable without spending all of our time.  Below, find 5 quick ideas to help the planet be a better place.

  1. Use biodegradable poop bags for your dog.  Yes, they exist.   Keep plastic out of the landfills.
  2. Reuse gift bags.  We have all got them for birthdays and holidays.  Too nice to throw away right?  Cut off the address tag and reuse them.  You can give gifts in them, use them to carry things, cut them up for a decoration.
  3. Buy Bamboo when possible. Bamboo is durable and fast growing. It’s renewable and sustainable. It can also be used for a variety of things from interior design and clothing, do bowls, and utensils.
  4. Volunteer for a river or park clean up.  Spend a few hours one weekend a year to help get trash out of our water supply. It will not only help keep our drinking water clean, but also keep animals from eating garbage or getting trapped in trash,
  5. Support an animal.  Volunteer or donate items to  a shelter.  Adopt through a wildlife organization or zoo your favorite animal.  I’ve sponsored endangered species  before. It’s also a great gift for others!  Christmas is coming!

What quick ways do you know that help the environment.  Share them with me.
